Junior BBQ 2016

We weren't going to let the rain defeat us!!

Despite it raining all afternoon it stopped at 6.29 and as you can see in the photos we had a good evening.

First our hardy juniors had a fun game of mixed age cricket - with the older ones batting left handed!! Big thanks to club legend and coach Payno for arranging.

The hungry boys and their families then enjoyed sausages, burgers and a few drinks. Huge thanks to James for barbecuing all night. Thanks also to Claire for helping me in the kitchen and Tom and Callum for running the bar.

Last junior matches this weekend and last junior training this Wednesday (20th).

Recreational cricketers - have your say!

Have your say and influence the future of your cricket by taking part in this year's National Cricket Playing Survey.

The 2016 survey is now open and is the shortest ever - a ‘pulse-check' taking less than 10 minutes. You can give feedback on your satisfaction with the game, the effectiveness of any changes you've experienced, and your thoughts on how your club cricket should continue to change.

By taking the survey, you will also have the chance to win a £250 voucher for the ECB online shop, which stocks all the latest playing equipment.

Whether you're a first team regular, or play the odd Sunday friendly game, this is your chance to make your views heard and get the cricket you want.As a result of over 75,000 responses in the last 3 years, more than 100 leagues - including those that comprise the Cheshire pyramid - have made the changes players want to see, from earlier start times and shorter travel distances, to introducing innovative formats and rule changes, as well as greater opportunities for women, girls and disability cricketers to play the game.

Cheshire Cricket Board Marketing Manager Gareth Moorhouse said: "We always get an excellent response to this survey and we're keen to hear from players this summer about the changes that have already been introduced. It's a brilliant way for players to give feedback, make suggestions and actively influence the future of our game."

Small Grants Scheme

We have now secured the funding  with some monetary assistance being provided by the club to improve the facilities outside the club, become more family friendly and utilise the BBQ area to its potential. This is an exciting project which hopefully will be completed in the next few weeks.

Sponsorship of Teas or Match Balls

We have had great take up this year so far but there are still a few spaces available. This is an important income stream for the club and an enjoyable one for the sponsor who can sponsor a tea for £50 enjoy the food, and bring some friends along to socialise and experience the unique atmosphere at the Barns, If you would like to sponsor  a match ball for £25 then please let us know.

 Painting of the pavilion

Special thanks to the team  who painted the back of the pavilon recently. We are trying to finish off small jobs to make sure everything looks as good as possible for the season.

The club is looking forward to a great 2016 – new members are welcome

We have transformed the club in the last 3 years with new net facilities, improvements on the ground & wickets and last season the club opened new changing rooms doubling the size of the previous facilities including a separate umpire’s changing room.

Last season’s excellent Aussie overseas player Shehan Fernando will be returning in 2016 to captain the 1st team and take a leading role in our coaching team at the club.

We will be having regular social events at the club throughout the year and nets/training will be taking place at the club from Saturday 26th March and Thursday evening - weather permitting.

Existing members check newsletter and Facebook - new members contact us via the link above.

The club welcomes new players at all levels and we currently have a vacancy for another qualified coach with a job description & remuneration details available on request – please contact the club via the “contact us” link above.

We are confident the 1st team can challenge for promotion in 2016!

100 Club

We currently have a few opportunities to join the HBCC 100 Club.  The idea behind the 100 club is that there are 100 members who each pay £1 a month or £12 a year by standing order to the club.  Each month half the money goes to the club and the rest is given out as prizes (there are currently 3 prizes a month of £25, £15 and £10).
For more information and to join please email Karen Harrison -

Scorers wanted

This is such an important job during a cricket match and with Barbara Strong now not available after many, many years of fantastic work, now is the time for to others step up. This is ideal for a junior who may want to do the work on a Saturday or Sunday for some pocket money whilst learning the nuances of the game. It could be done on a rota basis so they do not have to commit themselves every week. A number of the current  crop of young players have helped the teams  this way in the past.

Please can all playing members ensure they complete the online availabilty sheet on a monthly basis.  Instructions are located here.
