Match Report:
An even more depleted Hale Barns entertained already promoted, but title chasing, Ashton on Mersey in the final league game of the season.
McGibbon, Gives, Roscow, Glover and Webb all made starts for AoM but they never pushed on. To be honest, it was clear they were looking to get 155+ and a fair chunk of the 10 points needed to take the championship.
Once again Robinson (2-58) looked dangerous but bowled too many bad balls and Saddington (3-44) kept things fairly tight. AoM made 160/5 from their 45 overs.
In reply Hale Barns were in trouble at 62/5 in the 28th. However, this brought Andy Wood and Jordie Collins to the wicket. These two flayed AR and AT Roscow for a few overs (partnership of 56 from 8 overs) before Collins (24 from 32 balls) was harshly given out LBW to AT Roscow (4-31).
Hale Barns didn’t have anything else in reserve and it was all over when Glover (3-23) bowled Wood round his legs for 27 from 35 balls. Barns finally all out for 123.
So that’s that. Thanks to everyone who has played for me this season and, in particular, to Ann for her fabulous teas. This season has not been an easy one – in many ways, next season will be an even bigger challenge. However, I step aside and wish whoever takes over the best of luck.
Cheers, Andy Wood
