Match Report:
A new look Hale Barns, which sported 4 new faces, took to the field v Davenham after winning the toss. However, it was one of the old faces, Dave Molloy, who wreaked havoc in favourable bowling conditions after a prolonged shower before the start of play. There was no sign of what was to come initially however as the openers put on 23 for the first wicked at a steady 3 an over before Jackson was trapped in front for the first of Molloy's six wickets. From that point on there was a steady procession back to the pavilion. Only Davenham's left handed opener looked likely to try and occupy the crease for a period of time, however he was well snaffled at third slip by Joe Cooper off the bowling of James Dunley. Dunners bowled superbly returning figures of 1 for 17 off 12 over but could have had a sack full of wickets. His good ones being that bit too good. It was a really impressive opening double act by these two and they should cause plenty of problems throughout the season. Molloy and Dunley bowled the first 24 overs between them and, by the time they were put to pasture, Davenham were well and truly on the ropes with eight down. Saddo and Alex Robinson both picking up a wicket each. A run out completing the ten. At the half way stage things couldn't have been better. Great bowling and some really impressive fielding including a couple of catches by new boy Sujoy Jaiswal and another plucked from the clouds by Jordie Collins in the way only he could. However, things then took a bit of a turn for the worse. The youthful opening partnership of Warner and Cooper didn't last long - albeit slightly longer than the skipper - and HBCC had somehow managed to get contrive the perilous position of 3 down for just over double figures. It was then down to two of the new boys - yet to be infected with Hale Barns' brittle batting disease - to show some positive intent and effectively put the game beyond doubt. Alex Robinson (20) particularly went on the attack against spinner Paul Jackson whereas Jaiswal (27) was keen on anything full bowled by Dean Jackson. Robinson succumbed to P Jackson and Jaiswal followed later on - however the back of the small target was broken. A sixth victim with scores level left HBCC with a 4 wicket win and an rather early finish. However, the batting had been as poor as the bowling had been superb. In short a good start but plenty to work on. The day was topped off with the inaugural HBCC darts evening, hosted and organised by Houghy. A fantastic evening which saw a tight final between Marcus and Jenks. Marcus finally taking the pot. Undoubtedly, the highlight of the night being Barbara's victory over Jordie! Thanks to Houghy for arranging and everyone who came along and supported the club. The first of many such evenings one hopes. MVP - Dave Molloy
